ALAMEDA — The sign on a door at Edison Elementary School contained an inclusive message: “Everyone welcome here.”. But a group of parents gathered at the school May 31 to talk about how that message is being challenged in a frightful way — messages of hate finding their way into the Alameda Unified School District’s campuses. Like some other East Bay school districts, Alameda has experienced an increase in messages aimed at degrading Jews and other ethnic groups. The messages have taken the form of Nazi symbolism left at Edison and Otis elementary schools and a series of anti-Semitic text messages to a Jewish student at Alameda High School. Parents at the meeting said there have been other incidents at well.
